Halti - Troms / Finland

If you are into collecting highest peaks achievements, this might be something for you. From here the trail to the mountain top of Halti starts. Halti is the highest mountain of Finland: Finland's highest point, 1.324 metres above sea level, lies on its slope, while the summit itself is on the Norwegian side. The hike takes about 5-6 hours and is 14 km long. Almost on the mountain top you will cross the Finnish border. The hiking trail starts from this car park. Some Norwegians wanted to give the peak of Hálditšohkka to Finland as a present in 2017. The plan was to shift the border line a bit so the highest peak of Finland would even grow a bit. The idea got a lot of public support. But when the Norwegian government was seriously considering this step, they found out that the Norwegian constitution was not allowing such a shift against the country's favour.
