Halti - Troms / Finland
Hiking Trail
Accessibility: summer
If you are into collecting highest peaks achievements, this might be something for you. From here the trail to the mountain top of Halti starts. Halti is the highest mountain of Finnland (1.361 above sea level). The hike takes about 5-6 hours and is 14 km long. Almost on the mountain top you will cross the Finnish border. The hiking trail starts from this car park. You will also find signs at the car park telling you how the route is tagged. A more refined tour description can be seen on the Visit Lyngen website. Here.
If you do the hike and you have some pictures from the mountain top - please send them to us. When I was about to start my way up to Halti it stated to snow.
Some Norwegian wanted to give the peak of Hálditšohkka to Finnland as a present in 2017. The plan was to shift the border line a bit so the highest peak of Finnland would even grow a bit. The idea got a lot of public support. But when the Norwegian government was seriously considering this step, they found out that the Norwegian constitution was not allowing such shift against the countries favor.
